Nashville Tennessee - September 14-18
What is the MMIS Conference? The national Medicaid Management Information Systems (MMIS) conference is an annual meeting for State, Federal and private sector individuals to provide them with opportunities to exchange ideas related to Medicaid systems (MMIS) and heath policy affected by those systems. The conference has been in existence since the nineties and has recently grown to an attendance of approximately eight hundred. States volunteer to host the event and work with a committee of Federal, State and private sector individuals to plan and execute the conference. Over the past five years, MMIS conferences have been held in Louisiana, Oklahoma, Montana, Rhode Island and California. MMIS 2008 will be held in Nashville, Tennessee and the 2009 conference will be in Chicago, Illinois. The MMIS conference spans five days. Business meetings are held on Sunday and general sessions and breakout sessions are held Monday through Thursday. Past keynote speakers have included Peter Waegemann, CEO, Medical Records Institute and Dr. David Brailer, former Director of the Office of the National Coordinator. The conference tracks typically focus on issues related to MMIS procurement, funding, and operations. Additionally, celebrity speakers have included Emmy award winning motivational speaker Loretta LaRoche and Dr. Patch Adams who is known to many by the movie of the same name featuring Robin Williams. Exhibitors at the MMIS conference include large and small companies involved in Medicaid systems. Over 60 exhibitors participated in the 2007 conference and the Nashville event is expected to attract several new sponsors and exhibitors. In addition to exhibit space, various sponsorship opportunities are offered to exhibitors to provide them with access to potential customers. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) participates and offers sessions on their current initiatives related to the Medicaid Information Technology Architecture (MITA). MITA is intended to foster integrated business and IT transformation across Medicaid programs and to ultimately improve the administration of those programs. The coordinator of the 2008 and 2009 conferences is the New England States Consortium Systems Organization (NESCSO). NESCSO also coordinated the MMIS conferences in 2001, 2006 and 2007. NESCSO is a non-profit corporation organized by the six New England Health and Human services agencies and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. The mission of the organization is to foster communication and collaboration among members through information sharing and joint projects.
